When speechwriters for then –U.S. President Ronald Reagan cut and pasted three words from an old Russian proverb, little could they have imagined that such a simple phrase would quickly set in motion events that first thawed and then ultimately brought down the Soviet union, ending the 30 year-long Cold War between the Soviet empire and the West.

The same Russian proverb, “Trust but Verify” is emblematic of the reasons why independent verification of attendance at exhibitions and similar events is a concept whose time has finally arrived. Why now?
